Course contents: This course aims to illustrate and demonstrate how to create a data collection, management and analysis system using only open technologies and FOSS4G software. In particular, the workshop focuses on monitoring environmental parameters by presenting concepts, experiences and technological solutions developed by the geomatics sector of the Institute of Earth Sciences (SUPSI) and adopts a "learning-by-doing" approach with frequent practical exercises interspersed with short theoretical parts. The course is divided into four modules of approximately 2 hours each:

1. Open Monitoring System: presentation of the concepts of open systems for monitoring (Open Hardware, Open Software, Open Standard, Open Data)
2. Management of sensor data with istSOS: brief introduction and tutorials and the software
3. Time series analysis with oatlib: an extensible library in Python to organize and analyze data from sensors
4. Combine sensors, istSOS and oatlib: creation of a small network of sensors that record data in istSOS in real time and which are then analyzed with a Python script.
